The medical industry is challenged by the presence of microorganisms and the negative effects they cause. In Europe, more than twice as many people die as a result of hospital acquired infection each year than are killed in road traffic accidents.
 
The World Health Organisation states that textiles act as a microbial harbour and offer ideal conditions for the proliferation of superbugs. A UK microbiologist recently published a report in the Lancet that bed linens, hospital gowns and tables were all a more common source of superbugs than floors.
 
PERFORMANCE TESTED AND APPROVED THROUGH CLINICAL TRIAL

maedical® has been tested in vivo in hospital environments through 50 industrial laundry cycles. Results were validated by l’Institut Pasteur de Lille in the context of the European-funded research programme “FlexiFunBar”, contract n° 505864 IP-SME-FP6.
 
HOW DOES IT WORK?

The new molecule works by permanently linking a non-migrating antimicrobial coating on to textiles. Microorganisms are attracted to the surface of the textile, where once in contact with the treatment their cell membranes are punctured, as if by a sword. The piercing mechanism both kills and prevents re-growth of the micro-organism. maedical® is clinically proven to be perfectly safe in contact with human skin and releases no pollutants into the environment.
